Working remotely for SOPHOLA
New way of working: Work from home
My name is Naomi and I joined SOPHOLA as a new member just at the beginning of this month.
While entering the new field of Digital Marketing brings its challenges and steep learning curve, a new way of working from home added to this challenge for me.
It is the first time from me to work from home and I have to admit that I am still adjusting to this new way of working.
In the past 3 weeks that I have been working from home for SOPHOLA, I learnt the following in order to make remote working as fruitful as possible:
- It is important to find a “work environment” at home, detached from the daily routines. This helps me with mentally being in the “work zone” and also does not give any distractions.
- Making sure to have breaks: there are no colleagues that come up for a little chat or a coffee break at the pantry, it is just me and the computer. So consciously taking a few minutes break to refresh the mind is important in order to focus and keep going.
- Communication: this was the greatest adjustment for me. Not having someone sitting next to me to ask a quick question is a whole new experience. While there are many convenient tools these days to ensure smooth communication with your colleagues and superior, there is a psychological barrier to actively seek help for little matters. So in the end, I end up researching for myself to find the answer. And while this might take longer than a casual question, it gives the initiative to be more independent and rely less on the manpower of others.
I am sure that it is just a matter of time to adjust to this new work environment and I am thankful that SOPHOLA gave me the opportunity to work from home right from the start.
It’s the end of the year 2020 already and this year brought a lot of changes to everyone around the globe. May you have a blessed end of the year and have a great start into 2021!
