Working remotely for SOPHOLA

New way of working: Work from home

My name is Naomi and I joined SOPHOLA as a new member just at the beginning of this month.

While entering the new field of Digital Marketing brings its challenges and steep learning curve, a new way of working from home added to this challenge for me.

It is the first time from me to work from home and I have to admit that I am still adjusting to this new way of working.

In the past 3 weeks that I have been working from home for SOPHOLA, I learnt the following in order to make remote working as fruitful as possible:

  1. It is important to find a “work environment” at home, detached from the daily routines. This helps me with mentally being in the “work zone” and also does not give any distractions.
  2. Making sure to have breaks: there are no colleagues that come up for a little chat or a coffee break at the pantry, it is just me and the computer. So consciously taking a few minutes break to refresh the mind is important in order to focus and keep going.
  3. Communication: this was the greatest adjustment for me. Not having someone sitting next to me to ask a quick question is a whole new experience. While there are many convenient tools these days to ensure smooth communication with your colleagues and superior, there is a psychological barrier to actively seek help for little matters. So in the end, I end up researching for myself to find the answer. And while this might take longer than a casual question, it gives the initiative to be more independent and rely less on the manpower of others.

I am sure that it is just a matter of time to adjust to this new work environment and I am thankful that SOPHOLA gave me the opportunity to work from home right from the start.

It’s the end of the year 2020 already and this year brought a lot of changes to everyone around the globe. May you have a blessed end of the year and have a great start into 2021!
